Smart Door Locks in Pakistan: Face, Fingerprint, PIN or Card?

How to choose a smart door lock: face recognition, fingerprint, PIN, card and key compared, with what to check before you buy and what our range offers.

Short answer: choose a smart door lock by how the people in your home will actually get in. Face recognition is hands-free, a fingerprint reader is quick for the family, a PIN is easy to share, a card suits anyone who would rather not use a fingerprint or remember a code, and a mechanical key is the backup for when the batteries run low. Most households use two or three of these on the same lock. This guide explains how each method works, compares them side by side, and lists what to check before you buy a smart door lock in Pakistan.

How each entry method works

Face recognition

A face-recognition lock uses a camera to compare the face in front of it with the faces you have registered. Many models add infrared sensing so they can still recognise a face at night or in a dim entrance. Recognition can be less reliable when someone is wearing sunglasses or their appearance has changed a lot, so a face lock should always have a second way in.

Fingerprint

A fingerprint reader compares the finger on the sensor with the prints you registered. It is quick and there is nothing to carry. Wet, dirty, cut or very dry fingers can fail to read, and a dirty sensor causes the same problem, so it helps to register more than one finger for each person and to wipe the sensor now and then.

PIN code

A keypad opens the lock when the right code is entered. A code is easy to give to a family member and easy to change. On a touch keypad, finger smudges or someone watching can give the code away, so change it from time to time and check whether the lock lets you hide your code among extra digits.

Card

A card lock reads a registered card or tag held close to it. Cards suit people who would rather not use a fingerprint or remember a code. A card can be lost or handed on, but on most card locks a lost card can be removed from the lock’s memory without changing the lock itself.

Mechanical key

Most smart locks keep a mechanical key override. It works without power, which matters if the batteries run flat. Many locks also warn you when the battery is getting low and have an emergency power port on the outside, so you can get in and replace the batteries.

How to choose for your household and your door

Who uses the door

Count everyone who comes and goes. A large family often does well with fingerprint plus face recognition, so nobody needs to carry anything. If relatives or others need access for a while, a PIN or a card that you can change or remove later is simpler than sharing a key. For older family members or children who find a fingerprint reader awkward, a card or face recognition can be easier.

Which door it is for

Smart locks are built for particular door thicknesses, materials and lock cut-outs, so the door matters as much as the features. Before you buy, message us on WhatsApp with a photo of the door and we can talk you through it.

Where the lock sits

If you are considering face recognition, think about the light at that door during the day and at night, and keep a second entry method set up for anyone the camera struggles with.

What to ask before you buy

  • Which entry methods does the lock offer, and which will each person use?
  • Is there a mechanical key override?
  • How does the lock warn you about low batteries, and is there an emergency power port?
  • Will it suit my door? Send a photo of the door on WhatsApp.
  • How are fingerprints, codes and cards removed when someone no longer needs access?
  • What does the warranty cover, and for how long?

Frequently asked questions

Which is better for a smart door lock, face recognition or fingerprint?

Neither is better for every home. Face recognition is hands-free but can struggle with sunglasses or a big change in appearance. A fingerprint reader is quick but can fail with wet, dirty or worn fingers. Many households use a lock with both, or keep a PIN, card or key as a second way in.

What happens if the batteries in a smart lock run out?

Most smart locks warn you when the battery is low and keep a mechanical key override that works without power. Our Door Lock (Handle) has a mechanical key override and a USB port for emergency power, and the 7F and X6 listings include emergency power through a micro USB port.

Can I give someone access without giving them a key?

Yes. A PIN code or a registered card can be given to someone and changed or removed later, which is simpler than getting a key back. Fingerprints can also be registered for people who use the door every day.

Will a smart lock fit my door?

It depends on the door’s thickness, material and the existing lock cut-out. Send us a photo of the door on WhatsApp at +92 331 4444450 before you buy.

What warranty comes with your smart door locks?
